Many &#8220;false promise of marriage&#8221; cases begin with a genuine, consensual relationship that later ended and was followed by an FIR. The video explains where the law draws the line between deception and a relationship that simply did not work out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key points<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Section 69 BNS punishes sexual intercourse obtained by deceit, or by a promise to marry made with no intention of keeping it. The punishment can extend to 10 years and fine.<\/li>\n\n<li>The promise must have been false from the very start, and it must have directly led to the consent (Pramod Suryabhan Pawar, 2019; Deepak Gulati, 2013).<\/li>\n\n<li>A relationship that ended, or a later refusal to marry, is not a crime by itself.<\/li>\n\n<li>In Pradeep Kumar Kesarwani v. State of U.P.
