Quick answer: Consumer complaints in Delhi
Under the Consumer Protection Act, 2019, a consumer can file a complaint within two years of the cause of action. Claims where the consideration paid is up to Rs 50 lakh go to the District Commission, up to Rs 2 crore to the Delhi State Commission, and above that to the National Commission (NCDRC), which also sits in Delhi. The complaint can be filed where the complainant lives or works, and online through the e-Jagriti portal. Appeals lie to the State Commission within 45 days and to the National Commission within 30 days. Law Chambers of Mridul Jindal handles these matters in Delhi. Call +91-8800669834.

Common Consumer Cases in Delhi
- Builders and real estate: Delayed possession and refunds; homebuyers can choose the consumer forum even where RERA also applies (Imperia Structures v. Anil Patni, 2020).
- Insurance and banking: Rejected health, vehicle or life claims, and deficient banking or card services.
- Travel and e-commerce: Flight cancellations and refunds, defective products and non-delivery by online sellers.
- Medical and education: Medical negligence claims and refund disputes with institutes.
How a Consumer Complaint Proceeds
A legal notice usually comes first. The complaint is then filed with documents and an affidavit, the opposite party replies, both sides file evidence by affidavit, and the Commission decides after arguments. The Commission can also refer the dispute to mediation under Section 37. Orders are enforced through execution proceedings under Sections 71 and 72.
Which Delhi Commission?
Each Delhi district has a District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission. Because the complainant can file where he lives or works (Section 34), Delhi residents can usually file in their own district even against companies located elsewhere. Larger claims go to the Delhi State Commission or the National Commission.
